Finding a Clinical Trials Opening

For this project, our team explored and piloted new business ventures in clinical trials management for physicians, research sites, and pharmaceutical clients. I partnered with another strategic designer and a small pilot team. When I started, we had done some foundational research and were in the process of synthesizing findings into some themes and opportunities. I helped map these opportunities alongside the clinical trials journey

Selecting Concepts

Following the mapping exercise, one of my first challenges was to visualize these opportunities with concepts for the team to use for storytelling and feedback (internal and external). These artifacts helped frame discussions with stakeholders and drove further prioritization and alignment with the team. We also took them out to our early innovation partners to get feedback around potential product-market fit.

Value Proposition and Initiatives

From this point, I helped our team define the value our services could bring to different users across the spectrum, with a particular focus on where we could be uniquely differentiated from the market. We then took those value propositions and reframed them as separate initiatives and boulders. This became the framework for our product roadmap, and helped us prioritize where to start and which assumptions we wanted to test first.

Collaborative Design Activities

Later on in the project, we went on site with a client who was running pediatric clinical trials at their practice. We interviewed a number of people at the office and ran several collaborative design exercises to map out their process, understand pain points, and explore additional service opportunities.

Client Research Synthesis

After the site visit, we went back through our notes and research artifacts to synthesize and summarize our understanding of their challenges. I then visualized this for the team in a journey map, system diagram, and theme cards.

Wrap Up

These assets helped to guide the future design efforts and product strategy for the team. In addition, we shared them back with the client we visited – who was so excited about it they wanted to save the diagrams and use them for training their new staff in the future.
